Derek Watt put together a 17-season TFL career as a fullback, spending time with the Utah Craters, New York Flames, and Pittsburgh Ironmen. While his statistical production was limited, Watt's career was defined much more by longevity, team success, and consistently being part of winning organizations.

Watt spent his first seven seasons with Utah, where he experienced the greatest championship success of his career. He helped the Craters win Super Bowls I and IV, giving him two championships within his first four seasons. After leaving Utah, Watt spent three seasons with New York and immediately helped the Flames reach the Super Bowl in Season 8.

His final seven seasons came with Pittsburgh, giving him two separate seven-season stretches with the same franchise during his career. Individually, Watt earned one Pro Bowl and one All-Pro selection, while his teams reached the playoffs nine times and won six division titles. Across his postseason career, he appeared in five conference championship games and three Super Bowls, finishing 2-1 on the TFL's biggest stage.

Watt retired after Season 17 with a Hall of Fame case that is unusual compared with most candidates. His one career touchdown and limited individual honors make his statistical résumé extremely thin, but 17 seasons at fullback, two Super Bowl championships, three conference championships, and sustained team success give him a longevity-and-winning-based argument at a position where individual production is naturally difficult to accumulate.
