What's New in Season 14?

Season 14 marked another historic milestone for the Teddy Football League, as the league completed its second expansion and reached a total of 40 franchises. Along with four new expansion teams, Season 14 introduced the league's modern 18-game schedule, a redesigned 20-team playoff format, and a new scheduling system that continues to be used today.

Second League Expansion

For the second time in league history, the TFL expanded with the addition of four new franchises:

• Delaware Destroyers (NFC North)

• Milwaukee Yetis (AFC North)

• Oregon Beavers (NFC South)

• San Antonio Orbit (AFC South)

The expansion increased league membership from 36 to 40 franchises, completing the league's structure.

Expansion Draft Returns

Like the Season 10 expansion, the new franchises built their inaugural rosters through an Expansion Draft.

Each expansion team selected one player from each of the league's 36 existing franchises, resulting in 36-player inaugural rosters. The Expansion Draft once again followed a randomized snake format, while no existing franchise could lose more than four players during the process.

Unlike the Season 10 expansion, the new franchises did not receive special draft positioning because Season 14 was not a Rookie Draft year.

Modern 18-Game Schedule

Season 14 introduced the scheduling format that continues to be used today.

With 40 franchises now divided into eight divisions of five teams, every team began playing:

• Their four divisional opponents twice each season (8 games)

• Every team from one rotating division within their own conference (5 games)

• Every team from one rotating division from the opposite conference (5 games)

This created the league's first 18-game regular season while maintaining a 18-week schedule with no bye weeks.

The new format also increased the league schedule to 379 total games.

New 20-Team Playoff Format

Expansion also led to another postseason redesign.

The playoffs expanded from 16 teams to 20 teams, with 10 teams qualifying from each conference.

The new format featured:

• The No. 1 seed receiving a bye directly to the Divisional Round

• Seeds 2–4 (division champions) receiving a bye to the Wild Card Round

• Seeds 5–10 competing in the new First Round

• Five postseason rounds:

  • First Round

  • Wild Card Round

  • Divisional Round

  • Conference Championships

  • Super Bowl

This structure rewarded division champions while expanding postseason opportunities for Wild Card teams.

Jersey Card Set

Season 14 introduced a unique new TFL trading card set inspired by each franchise's uniforms.

Rather than using traditional player card designs, every card resembled the player's team jersey, featuring the player's last name and uniform number. The complete collection included 1,760 jersey cards, creating one of the largest card releases in league history and providing another way to document every active player in the TFL.

New Expansion Logos

The league's four expansion franchises each debuted with their own primary logo:

• Delaware Destroyers

• Milwaukee Yetis

• Oregon Beavers

• San Antonio Orbit

These logos introduced the visual identities of the newest members of the TFL as they began building their own histories.
