Running Back/Return Specialist
Season 1 - Season 14
J.D. McKissic, a versatile and electric weapon out of the backfield, enjoyed a 14-season career in the TFL, thriving as both a running back and return specialist. He spent time with three franchises: the Tennessee Angels (Seasons 1–7), New York Flames (Seasons 8–11), and Washington Liberty (Seasons 12–14), carving out a legacy defined by speed, shiftiness, and dependability.
Signed by the Tennessee Angels ahead of the inaugural TFL season, McKissic made an immediate mark as a dynamic playmaker and earned a Pro Bowl nod as a returner. His chemistry with quarterback Russell Wilson was undeniable, becoming one of Wilson’s most trusted targets both in Tennessee and later in New York. In Season 8, he was part of a blockbuster trade to the Flames, where he continued to contribute as a reliable third-down back and return man. He wrapped up his career with three seasons in Washington, serving as a veteran presence and occasional spark plug.
McKissic tallied 60 total touchdowns—24 rushing and 36 receiving—averaging 4.3 touchdowns per season. He recorded four games with two touchdowns and became known for his versatility in both offensive sets and special teams. His impact extended into the postseason, reaching 9 playoff appearances, winning 6 division titles, winning two NFC title games, and playing in two Super Bowls.
Though never a traditional workhorse, McKissic’s ability to impact games in multiple phases, along with his adaptability and longevity, earned him respect throughout the league. Whether fielding kicks, catching swing passes, or juking defenders in open space, McKissic was a difference-maker and one of the most dynamic role players of the TFL’s first era.
