One of the most accomplished defensive backs of the TFL era, Justin Simmons built a reputation as an elite ball-hawking safety and a consistent leader in the secondary. Over a 19-season career, Simmons played for the Pittsburgh Ironmen (Seasons 1–13), Tampa Bay Waves (Season 14), and Milwaukee Yetis (Seasons 15–19), becoming one of the most decorated safeties in league history.

Simmons entered the league during the Season 1 Inaugural Draft when the Pittsburgh Ironmen selected him in the third round with the 85th overall pick. From early in his career, Simmons quickly established himself as a defensive playmaker thanks to his instincts, range, and ability to read opposing quarterbacks. As the anchor of Pittsburgh’s secondary for over a decade, he became one of the defining defensive players of the franchise’s early years.

During his tenure with the Ironmen, Simmons reached the peak of his career and earned nine Pro Bowl selections while being named Pittsburgh Ironmen Player of the Year four times. His ability to patrol the deep field, break on passes, and generate turnovers made him one of the most feared safeties in the league. After thirteen seasons in Pittsburgh, Simmons signed with the Tampa Bay Waves in Season 14, where he continued to perform at an elite level. Simmons later joined the Milwaukee Yetis in Season 15, finishing his career with five productive seasons and earning two additional Pro Bowl honors while also being named Milwaukee Yetis Player of the Year. Across his career, Simmons recorded eight pick-sixes and eight total defensive touchdowns, consistently turning defensive stops into game-changing moments.
