Melvin Gordon III, one of the most consistent running backs of the first 14 seasons of the TFL, carved out a long and respected career spanning seven franchises. From explosive lead back to reliable veteran presence, Gordon adapted with grace and made a lasting impact wherever he went.

Gordon entered the league in Season 1 with the Hawaii Warriors before rising to prominence with the Los Angeles Lancers from Seasons 2–7, where he earned his second of his two Pro Bowl selections and was the focal point of the offense. During this time, he recorded four seasons with 10 or more touchdowns and nine multi-touchdown games.

In Season 8, he joined the Cleveland Chaos, where he began to split backfield duties. That trend continued into Season 10 when he was drafted by the Anchorage Avalanche in the Expansion Draft. From Season 11 onward, with the Chicago Bolts, Phoenix Pythons, and Louisiana Oxen, Gordon transitioned fully into a backup role. Though no longer the workhorse, he remained a valuable and trusted contributor behind younger backs.

Over 14 seasons, Gordon totaled 83 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns, giving him 85 total touchdowns—averaging 6.1 touchdowns per season. He logged 4 seasons with 10+ touchdowns and 9 games with 2 touchdowns, a testament to his red-zone effectiveness.

Team success followed him throughout his career. He was part of 11 seasons with a .500 record or better, made 9 playoff appearances, and won 3 division titles. He reached the AFC Championship Game once, narrowly missing a shot at the TFL title.
